Inherited Memory
is an installation about inherited memory — the invisible traces of previous generations that continue to exist within us and shape the way we live.
The work consists of sculptural forms resembling petals: metaphorical fragments of the unconscious. Their surfaces are covered with cement and hold impressions, fragments, and traces of objects that once belonged to grandparents, great-grandparents, and earlier generations.
Traces
Cement is central to the work. While soft, it receives pressure, touch, and form. Once hardened, these impressions remain embedded in its surface. In a similar way, experiences from previous generations may disappear from conscious memory while continuing to exist through inherited fears, beliefs, gestures, behavioural patterns, and ways of relating to the world.
Some objects remain physically embedded within the sculptures. Others are removed, leaving only an imprint — evidence of something that was once there.
The Invisible Archive
A family archive usually preserves photographs, clothing, documents, and objects. Family Album turns toward another kind of archive — one formed by what cannot be photographed, documented, or clearly remembered.
The installation attempts to make this invisible inheritance visible.
We may never know the people whose experiences continue to resonate within us.
The objects disappear.
The stories fade.
The traces remain.
